Are You Car Smart? – Buying a Used Car

I just recently bought a car and was a little apprehensive about buying a used car in general. In general, I would avoid it but I have to say that I bought a great used car at a good price. It was a good used cars in san diego but the dealer had some quirks that needed attention. It was used as a demo so I knew that it was in pretty good condition, but I was surprised to find that there were problems that were overlooked. So, I decided to write a little about what I learned and what I would do differently if I were to do it again.

Routine Maintenance: In order to get the best deal on a used car, make sure that you know how to check a car’s maintenance and what to look for. When a car is used as a demo, the car should have a copy of the owner’s manual, a maintenance record, and a list of the maintenance performed on the car. While this is not a guarantee that the car is running as it was when the car was purchased, it’s a good way to get a feel for how the car is maintained and what may have been done to it.

Repairs: If the car was repaired at the dealer, you may be able to find out who performed the repairs. If you don’t, you may be able to find out if the repairs were done by the dealer. A good way to find out is to ask the dealer’s mechanic. If the dealer’s mechanic doesn’t know who performed the repairs, or if they just don’t remember, ask around and find out who repaired the car. You may get lucky and find out who actually did the repairs, but if not, at least you know where to look.

Check For Major Repairs: If you see major repairs on a car you’re interested in, you should not buy it. It may be a good deal, used cars in san diego but it’s not worth the headache if you can’t get the repairs completed in time to drive the car. If you’re unsure of what constitutes major repairs, it’s best to just ask around, as you may find out that the dealer didn’t do the repairs and that it’s actually a pretty good deal.

Inspecting the Engine: If you’re buying a used car, it’s important to check the engine. Make sure that the car has the original plugs, coils, and spark plugs. Check to make sure that the ignition points are good. Check the oil and the coolant levels. If it’s not too cold out, get the oil temperature by turning on the car and turning the key. If the oil is too low, get some new oil and put a quart in the car.
